Bank of Biological Material

BBM LF UP Olomouc consists of two departments: the Institute of Clinical and Molecular Pathology and the Institute of Molecular and Translational Medicine. The workplaces also fall under the Olomouc University Hospital and the Medical Faculty of Palacký University in Olomouc.
The Institute of Clinical and Molecular Pathology, Olomouc University Hospital, performs biopsy specimens, histological, cytological, immunohistological, molecular pathological and electron microscopic examinations, and also performs autopsies with subsequent processing of autoptic specimens. Since 2009, it has been collecting samples for the biobank for scientific research as well as diagnostic purposes, first within the project "Tissue archiving of the cryogenic storage system" and since 2012 is part of BBMRI.cz together with IMTM.
The Institute of Molecular and Translational Medicine was founded in 2011. Its mission is to perform basic and translational biomedical research with an aim to better understand the underlying cause of human infectious diseases and cancer, and to develop future human medicines, medical devices and diagnostics. Since its establishment, it has been archiving unused biological samples and since 2012 it has been involved in the large research infrastructure - BBMRI.cz.

We possess samples samples from patients with tumor of the lung, colorecum, breast, ovaria, prostate, pancreas, glioma, melanoma, and rare tumors, as well as samples from healthy individuals.

In our collections you will find materials such as FFPE blocks, native and cryopreserved tissues, serum, plasma, primocultures, organoids, DNA, and RNA.
