COOPERATING PARTNERS of BBMRI.cz
In practice, diagnostic companies are very much interested in BBMRI services such as pre-analytics procedures knowledge, research relevance using various human material being available in biorepositories, companion diagnostics, i.e. developing predictor along with the respective drug, also called theranostics.
The biobanks have dedicated long-term storage (LTS) facilities with controlled access of personnel (alarm, access plus identification chips). The storage there is realized in liquid nitrogen vapors in cryostorage tanks. The systems are equipped with automated filling and continuous monitoring of access, space, temperatures, nitrogen levels in tanks and oxygen level in the room (mostly used ones are Falcon-Kesa) with alarms linked to a qualified service person. The temporary storage of tissue samples is done in handy liquid nitrogen containers localized at the provisional sites such as departments of pathology or other places where the specimens are collected before being put in the LTS.
For short-term storage (STS), aliquotting leftovers of patient serum taken for the determination of tumor markers takes place at the specimen accession areas of clinical laboratories; these specimens are then stored as “short-term stored” specimens meaning that they stay at either –20 °C or –80 °C in the biorepositories for up to 15 months.
If a sample/biobank collection implements the quality criteria according to CEN/TS, it will be included in an online catalogue of biobanks enabling researchers to look for data and samples using the BBMRI-ERIC Directory.
